HAMBURG, N.Y. – A group of Hilbert College students involved in an upcoming international service learning trip to Kenya will participate in a 24-hour fast on May 1 to help raise awareness about food scarcity issues in the African country.
The one-day effort by Hilbert’s Kenya Krew will also raise funds for the three-week excursion through pledges made in support of the fast. While in Kenya, the students will take part in various hands-on community projects, including putting in a concrete floor at a rural village school and assisting at a home for girls who have lost their parents to AIDS.
Participating students are Amber Baily of New Berlin, Alexis Clune of Tonawanda, Melinda Manzella of Lake View, Katie Newton of Batavia, Jamie Omerhodzic of Hamburg, Marjorie Sanders of Blasdell, Samantha Sieg of Buffalo, and Kayla Silver of Pittsburgh, Pa.
