HAMBURG, N.Y. – Nearly 70 Hilbert College students will participate in a two-day residential leadership training camp, which will include team and skill-building activities, to help prepare them for leadership roles they will be taking on in the coming academic year.
Hilbert Student Government Association officers and class representatives, resident assistants, peer leaders, student ambassadors, and athletic team captains will be involved in the on-campus training program slated to take place May 14-15.
According to James Sturm, vice provost for leadership development and dean of students, this is the second year Hilbert is using this type of campus-wide training model for student leaders.
“Offering this comprehensive program to all our campus leaders as a whole is a highly effective, valuable experience for participants. It gives them the opportunity to come together as a group and benefit from interacting and sharing ideas with student leaders who will be serving various leadership roles across campus,” said Sturm.
Keynote speaker Nancy Hunter Denney, a nationally recognized leadership expert and author, will discuss with students “The Urgency of Your Greatness” at 11 a.m. May 14 in the William E. Swan Auditorium. She also will address at 1 p.m. the “Civility in the Age of Whatever.”
Using Hilbert’s Franciscan values as a foundation, the program will incorporate goal-setting, team activities and interactive exercises, and workshops on mentoring, creativity and other topics to develop student leadership skills and start the planning process for the 2012-13 academic year.
