2011-12 AMCC Peak Performer Award winners
PITTSBURGH, PA – The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference is pleased to recognize the winners of the winter and spring season Team Peak Performer Awards. This is a new awards program for the AMCC and was established as a way to focus greater attention on the fine collective academic accomplishments of our many teams. There is one team honoree selected for every AMCC championship sport, with the winners possessing the highest collective cumulative grade point average in their particular program. For winter and spring sports, that GPA was determined at the conclusion of the spring semester.
Hilbert captured the men’s volleyball team award with a spring semester grade point average of 3.25 while Penn State Altoona and Franciscan University teams were multiple winners in the second semester group. Altoona’s men’s swimming and diving (3.27), women’s swimming and diving (3.42) and softball (3.46) were matched by Franciscan’s men’s basketball (3.29), women’s basketball (3.48) and men’s tennis (3.33). Rounding out the field of high-achieving squads was the D’Youville College baseball team who collected a 3.27 grade point average.
During the first week of April, the NCAA kicked off the DIII Week, a new initiative to celebrate academic accomplishment, athletic activity and community service programs on each Division III athletic campus throughout the country. At that time, the fall semester Team Peak Performer Awards were announced by the AMCC league office and the Hilbert College women’s soccer team earned the highest cumulative GPA within the women’s soccer league posting a (3.58).
After a quick scan of the award winners from all fifteen AMCC championship sports, the Hilbert women’s soccer team earned the second highest grade point average falling one one-hundreds of a point behind the D’Youville College women’s cross country team who finished with a 3.59.
