POTSDAM, NY – The Hilbert College women’s soccer team dropped their season opener, 4-0, against Potsdam in the first round game of the Potsdam Invitational. Hilbert was outshot 16-2 for the match while freshman Erin Smith made 9 saves for Hilbert in goal.
Smith earned six saves carrying Hilbert to a 1-0 deficit by half time. Potsdam’s loan first period goal was the result of a Hawk defender deflecting the ball to the back of Hilbert’s net. Potsdam padded their lead after only 14-minutes of play into the second period.
Defenders Nicole Blair and Maria DelMonico were each credited with Hilbert’s only shots on Potsdam's goal. Heather Johnson netted two goals for Potsdam (1-0).
Hilbert faces Green Mountain in the consolation game September 2 at 11am. Potsdam will square off against Cazenovia, a 1-0 doubleover time winner in the 113th minute over Green Mountain.
