POTSDAM, NY – The Hilbert College men’s soccer team dropped their season opener, 2-0, against Castleton in the first round game of the Potsdam Invitational. The Hawks held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks but were doubled-up on in shots. Junior Jeremy Kraska made eight saves giving up only one goal to the visitors.
Castleton earned their first score when a Hilbert defender deflected the ball into the Hawks goal at 22:03. Castleton’s Dameon Young scored in the 40th minute which ended up being the only score of the day.
Freshman Mario Williams led the Hawks offense with five shots (two on goal)while junior James Knapp and rookies Jordan Lynch, Austin Mathis, Jonathan Davison and Ryan Liljedal were credited with one shot each.
Hilbert will play Morrisville September 2 (1:30pm) in the consolation game of the Potsdam Tourney. Potsdam, a 3-2 winner over Morrisville, will face Castleton in the championship game.
