POTSDAM. NY – Junior Robbi Bailey netted twice in Hilbert’s 3-0 victory over Green Mountain College in the consolation match of the Potsdam College Cup September 2. Sarah Schmidt scored the game winner midway through the first half and assisted on Bailey’s first goal, earning an All-Tournament nod for the weekend tournament.
The Hawks offense finally clicked in the twenty-second minute when Mary Mabon led Schmidt to the net for her first score of the season. A few minutes later, Schmidt connected with Bailey who placed a perfect ball in the top right corner to give Hilbert their two-goal lead heading into half time. Bailey was again set up, this time by Maria Delmonico at 49:08, finishing the scoring for the afternoon.
Ariana Scheidt earned her first collegiate shut-out making four saves for the Hawks. Hilbert outshot the Eagles 23-5 forcing Green Mountain’s Kim Simonetti scrambling for 13 saves.
In the championship game, Potsdam scored four second half goals to down Cazenovia College, 6-0, to claim the inaugural Potsdam Women’s College Cup.
Named to the 2012 All-Tournament Team was Kate Clauss (Potsdam), MVP and Heather Johnson (Potsdam), Top Score; Sarah Schmidt (Hilbert), Johanna Douglas (Green Mountain), Breanne Warner (Cazenovia) and Best Goalkeepers were Jamie Durant (Potsdam) and Shannon Weader (Potsdam).
Hilbert travels to Wells College September 5 for a 3 pm non-conference game.
