Box Score
Hamburg, NY – The women’s soccer team rebounded from Saturday’s home opener loss to win big, 11-0, against Penn State Beaver September 16. Three Hawks scored double goals with Mary Mabon and Kaitlyn Layman each earning 5 points in the win. Ten Hilbert players contributed in some way to the eleven scores as the Hawks improve to 2-4 with the non-conference win.
Allyson Kelchlin found the back of the net at 1:52 and sixteen seconds later, Robbi Bailey scored, pushing her season goal total to three. By 17:05, the Hawks put three more points on the score board when Kechlin, Layman and Sara Wagner all beat Penn State Beaver’s keeper with inside the box shots. By half time, Layman padded her stats with her second goal and Caitlyn Tauriello scored unassisted when she connected on the ball during a crazy, flurry of activity in front of the frame. Senior Rebecca Elensky {in photo to right} notched two assists.
After intermission, the Hawks slowed play down and worked both sides of the field to stretch the Lions’ defense. Maria DelMonico’s chip-shot over Amanda Donnatelli’s finger tips opened the scoring in the second stanza and Mabon connected on two unassisted scores by the 62nd minute. With just under seven minutes left in the contest, Amber Bailey pushed a Crystal Errington pass to the lower left corner and ended the score board movement.
Hilbert outshot Beaver (39-2) and dominated field position and ball possession. Donnatelli was credited with 17 saves in the match and Hilbert’s Ariana Scheidt earned two even though Erin Smith was credited for the win in goal.
Up next for the Hawks is a home game September 19 against Thiel College (3pm).
