HAMBURG, NY - The Hilbert’s men’s soccer team produced an impressive 8-0 win over the visiting Penn State Beaver Lions, extending their win streak to two. The Hawks found ways to get good looks at the net as ten different players earned points in the game. The defensive unit for Hilbert played a solid match limiting Beaver to only three shots in the non-conference win.
Jonathan Davison broke the scoreless tie in the 25th minute when he settled a punted ball from goal keeper Paul Liedkie, and went hard to the frame for his second goal in as many games. (see the video on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Hilbert-College-Athletics/186274074776971)
Recently added to the squad and didn’t waste time to have an impact, Matt Kane hustled to the front of the frame and dumped Austin Mathis’ centering pass in for his first collegiate score. Then just over two minutes later, in the 44th minute, Kane cleared the ball to Yonis Osman who walked in one-on-one. Hilbert won every loose ball and went to half time with a 3-0 advantage.
The second half started out with a bang! Hilbert’s Jordan Lynch {#11 in photo} netted his first goal less than one minute into the half off a pass from Matt Saxton. Lynch’s second of the day came when he buried a crossbar rebounded ball in the 69th minute. Hilbert’s Jon Flowers, and Mario Williams padded the lead with unassisted scores before Will Strehlow’s hard kick to the back of the net finished the scoring.
The Hawks outshot Beaver 35-3 and dominated the end line with a 12-3 corner kick advantage. Paul Liedkie's roll continued in goal today. He earned his second consecutive shutout and his first assist.
Hilbert’s next game will be Wednesday September 19th at Hilbert College against Thiel College.
