Junior Chelsea Reischuck (South Wales, NY/East Aurora) and freshman Mario Williams (Brampton, ONT/St. Marguerite d’Youville) have been named as the Hilbert College Student-Athletes of the Month for September, 2012.
The women’s volleyball team is currently rewriting the season records book after having sprinted to the team’s best start in Division III history. Reischuck’s overall consistent play during the first month of the season placed her in the top two rankings for team Attempts, Kills, Service Aces, Digs, Blocks and Sets Played leading her team to a 12-5 and 3-0 AMCC record. The outside hitter was credited with 129 Kills (2.22 Kills Per Set). Her 31 aces doubled her 15 total blocks for the month and she finished with 109 digs (1.88 dps). Her most impressive offensive match was in the AMCC four-set Hawk victory over D’Youville September 26 when she earned 14 kills (.281), Her best overall showing was the September 29 three-set road victory over Alfred with a 10 kill/17 dig/3 service ace/1 block performance.
Reischuck is a criminal justice major and is currently in her fifth semester at Hilbert.
Like the volleyball team, the 2012 Hilbert men’s soccer program has turned the corner and is in the midst of a break-out season. Stealer team play has led the Hawks to a 4-5-1, 2-1 AMCC start with Williams contributing to the team’s success. The midfielder led the team in points (18) and shots (38) in the team’s 10 matches. After starting nine times, Williams scored six goals (tied for first place), assisted on six other scores (1st place) and was second in shots on goal (17) as well as being credited with two game winning goals. His performances during AMCC matches were more impressive as he led the Hawks in all offensive categories (5g,4a,20 shots/11 on goal). On October 1, Williams was honored as the AMCC Offensive Player of the Week after he scored twice and assisted on three other markers.
Williams is a business administration major currently in his first semester of studies.
