HAMBURG, NY – Even though the playing conditions weren’t the best, the effort and the hustle on the soccer field was great. La Roche College outlasted Hilbert College 1-0 in men’ soccer October 20 having to playing through several down pours and sporadic windy periods. After the RedHawks’ Bryan Weimerskirch netted his tenth goal of the season, the visitor’s had to fight off Hilbert’s second half surge. The Hawks evened their record at 7-7-1 overall and sit at 5-3 in league standings.
At 39:01, Weimerskirch chipped the ball to the opposite corner over Hilbert’s Paul Liedkie, putting La Roche on the board first. Hilbert pressed through the rain and wind searching for their lucky strike the rest of the game. The Hawks outshot the visitors by six on offense and limited La Roche to only two shots during the second half. Ed Minkel, Mario Williams and Jordan Lynch each finished with four shots while Austin Mathis and Jonathan Davison each fired three shots a piece. Liedkie finished with seven saves and suffered his first loss in goal this season.
Prior to the game, Hilbert’s coaching staff and underclassmen honored their seven graduating seniors. Pictured above are the seniors and their families along with the Hilbert coaching staff.
The men’s soccer team finishes their 2012 regular season schedule October 23 when they host the AMCC league leader, Penn State Behrend (7-1) at 3pm. The Hawks are currently tied for 5th place and have to wait until Tuesday’s games are completed to see where they are seeded for the AMCC play-offs.
