Box Score AMCC Play-off Schedule
ELMA, NY – Balanced scoring from Penn State Behrend earned the Lions another victory as they captured a 3-1 victory over Hilbert in men’s soccer to finish the league schedule with an 8-1 record. Hilbert played aggressive and worked hard on both ends of the field, but they just couldn’t get enough good looks at the frame to earn the win. Hilbert finished their first winning season in the AMCC league (5-4) and they head into the league play-offs after a record setting regular season of play.
At 21:39, Jake Gamble snuck the ball past Jeremy Kraska giving the Lions a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Twenty-one minutes later, Kyle Connelly lifted the ball in front of the net for Danny Poljak who headed it home, supplying Behrend a 2-0 half-time lead.
Matt Saxton riffled a hard shot from outside the box which bounced off a Lion defender and deflected the opposite way in which Jarrod Wassell anticipated. The ball dribbled into the netting to cut the score to 2-1. Less than one minute later, Jimmy Belack kicked the ball to lower right corner away from Paul Liedkie who took over general duties in the net at intermission.
Behrend held a 9-2 shots on goal advantage (24-10 shots) and were aided by the 5-1 corner kick spread. Wassell made one save for the visitors while Kraska earned four and Liedkie was credited with two.
Behrend (#1) and Medaille (#2) earned a first round bye for the 2012 AMCC play-offs, while Hilbert (#5) travels to Penn State Altoona (#4) and Greensburg (#6) travels to La Roche (#3) October 27. The winners of the first round games move to the semi-finals October 31 (played at the #1 and #2 seeds) and the finals are set for November 3 at the highest remaining seeded team.
