PITTSBURGH, PA – The 2012 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference All-Conference volleyball team was released today, and, for the second time this fall, Hilbert College was honored with a 1st Team All-Conference player as well as the Coach of the Year award. Freshman Allegra Johnson and coach Amanda Logue led the Hawks to the program’s first ever AMCC post-season play-off game finishing the regular season in a four-way tie for 4th place in the AMCC. The 2012 team took hold of several season records as they volleyed to a 15-12 overall record riding a six-game winning streak early in the season.
Johnson finished her first year of collegiate ball leading the Hawks in Kills (240), points per set (2.98) and third on the team in digs (168). She was named as the AMCC Player of the Week October 29 for her stealer play at the end of the season. As well, the outside hitter concluded the year ranked #6 in the league with her 240 kills which helped Hilbert reach a 4-5 AMCC record.
In her fourth season, Logue and her staff turned the program from a 6-16 record one season ago to this year’s 15-12 mark. Along the way, the Hawks climbed atop the All-Time Season record books in eight of the eleven offensive categories tracked and won the most games in the program’s history as a Division III program. Several of her upperclassmen have taken over multiple All-Time Career leader spots under Logue's tutelage.
Twenty-one volleyball players and one coach are recognized for their contributions to their team’s success each year. The ten conference coaches vote for the Newcomer of the Year, the Player of the Year as well as the Coach of the Year. Seven players make up the First, Second and Third Teams. Medaille’s Simmone Talford grabbed the Newcomer Award and Franciscan's Anna Cain was honored as the Player of the Year.
