DUBOIS, PA – In a great defensive performance, the Hilbert College women’s basketball team secured a 67-40 early season win over Penn State DuBois November 17 with Jessica Jamison {in photo to right} running away with eight steals in the non-conference road game. Ten Hawks put points on the board and twelve of the player notched at least one rebound. Natalie Whitman earned her first double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds pushing Hilbert to 1-1 overall.
Hilbert held a slim 32-25 half time lead due, in part, to Whitman’s five for seven shooting and Jamison’s five steals and four offensive rebound performances.
After settling down during the break, Hilbert came out composed and took over offensively. The Hawks outscored DuBois 35-15 and forced 15 more turnovers (on top of the 14 first-half miscues). Hilbert used their bench size to their advantage pushing the ball and making endurance and conditioning a factor in the game.
The Hawks were better shooters (36% - 26%), rebounders (43-36) and thieves (13-7) while committing 12 fewer turnovers than the Lions.
DuBois’ Karly Carnovale chipped in 11 points and Kiley Lewis led all rebounders with 17 boards.
The Hawks return to action November 20th when they host Cazenovia College at 6pm. Remember, the game will be streamed live on ustream.tv if you are not able to travel to Hamburg that night.
