ALTOONA, PA – Penn State Altoona used mini-runs each half to pull away from Hilbert College and secure a 58-41 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory in women’s basketball January 26. Altoona’s
Tamara Thomas pulled down 17 rebounds and scored 14 points to lead her host team to their second conference win this season (2-11). Freshman
Courtney Coots finished with a team-high nine points to lead Hilbert (1-12).
Jenah Labuski hit back-to back buckets which gave Hilbert their only lead in the game with less than two minutes of play. Altoona went on an 11-0 run before
Kateland Ball netted a layup at 13:09 cutting the score (13-6). The Lions continued their hold over the Hawks the rest of the first half, taking a 31-20 lead to the locker room.
Things didn’t change much in the second half, with both teams picking up where they left off before the break. Altoona held Hilbert to 25% shooting for the game but the Hawks grabbed 16 offensive rebounds. Each team finished with six blocks however the Lions had fewer turnovers than Hilbert (20 to 23).
Sarah Lorusso led the Hawks with seven rebounds while scoring seven points.
Natalie Whitman chipped in eight points and
Kateland Ball added seven points with four assists.
Hilbert returns to action next weekend when they host Mount Aloysius College (7-5, 12-7) February 2.
