HAMBURG, NY – After a quick Hilbert start, the Pitt-Bradford women’s basketball team used a big run to close out the first half and rode that lead to an 81-47 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game February 6. Madison Krebs’ double 20s led three Panthers who reached double-figure scoring while Natalie Whitman’s 15 points carried the Hawks. Bradford improved to 9-5 and continues to hold onto the 4th place in AMCC.
During the first 8 minutes of the game neither team could pull away from the other. Bradford built a six point lead at 16:02, but balanced scoring from the Hawks brought them right back into the game. Kateland Ball’s layup at 12:05 tied the match for the last time. Bradford executed offensively mainly by dumping the ball down low to Krebs for easy buckets and they took a 46-18 lead into the locker room.
Whitman’s six points were high for the Hawks who shot 25% from the floor and pulled down 19 rebounds by half. Krebs earned 11 points and had already cleaned the glass for 15 boards, while Alicia Kimmel carried her team with 15 points on perfect shooting from the floor (5-5 and 5-5 at the foul line).
Hilbert wasn’t able to cut into the Panther hold the entire second half. Hilbert improved to 37.5% shooting and netted more points, but they had too large a difference to make up in 20 minutes of play.
For the game, the Hawks out rebounded Bradford (45-43) and secured 19 on the offensive end. But Bradford made 16 of their 19 foul shots while Hilbert earned only 4 points at the line.
Amber Grosch, Courtney Coots (3 assists) and Jena Labuski each finished with 6 points for Hilbert. Alicia Kimmel earned game high scoring honors with 23 tallies and Abby Brate added 12 for the visitors.
Hilbert travels to Pitt-Greensburg this weekend before they close their season next week with a home game against Behrend mid-week and a senior-day celebration against La Roche College on Saturday.
