Game One Game Two
GREENSBURG, PA – After dropping an 11-3 opening Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference road game to Pitt-Greensburg, the Hilbert College softball team regrouped and played to a 2-1 defeat March 30. Hilbert (2-8, 0-2) was a little rusty to start the day, as they played their first games of the month since returning from their spring break tourney down in Myrtle Beach. Senior Amber Grosch connected for two hits (.400) while senior Katie Pettis and freshman Brittany Hancy earned the team’s only RBIs against the (7-4, 2-0) Bobcats.
Hilbert held a 1-0 led through four innings in the second game of the double header. The Hawks got on the board when Kateland Ball earned a base on balls. The sophomore traveled around the bags on a sac hit by Elissa Hall before she ran home after a Greensburg error. The Bobcats tallied runs in the bottom of the 5th and 6th and claimed the win when the Hawks didn’t produce a score in the top of the 7th. Devan Jonathan went the complete game in the circle and struck out 5 batters while forcing 13 outs on defense.
Hilbert started the day in a close game with the Bobcats matching runs in the first inning. After three, Greensburg held a 4-3 lead, which they extended by one more run after the bottom of the 4th. The Hawks’ bats went cold as the game progressed while the hosts found their grove and scored six unanswered runs to close out an 11-3 opening victory. Grosch and Hall earned hits, and Pettis and Hancy were credited with the RBIs. Freshman Jaelyn Gotham went 5.1 and struck out two batters.
The Hawks hope to host Penn State Behrend on their home field in Hamburg on April 2 before they travel to Elmira College April 4th to play under the lights (6/8pm).
