UTICA, NY – Hilbert College played to a 2-1 half time score, but saw their close game stretch to a 6-1 loss to SUNYIT in women’s lacrosse April 7.
Caitlyn Jacobs took a Shannon Campbell pass and beat the Wildcat goalie with eleven minutes remaining in the first half to put the Hawks on the score board.
SUNYIT hit their third score at 24:48 to go in the second half to take a 3-1 lead, but when they hit back-to-back tallies with less than thirty seconds clicking off the game clock (at the 8th minute) , they seemed to take ownership of the victory.
Statistically, it was a very close game. Hilbert earned 12 clears, but SUNYIT just barely beat the Hawks in all other categories. The Wildcats held a 1 shot, 1 save, 2 ground balls, and 2 draw-controls advantage over the visitors from Hamburg. Hilbert went 0-4 on their free-position shots where SUNYIT was 2 of 5.
Sarah Lorusso led the Hawks with 3 draw-controls, 4 ground balls but was shut-out on her 9 shots. Nicole Blair was credited with 3 ground balls. Meghan Stewart finished with 7 saves on the day.
Hilbert has to wait until April 13 before they play their next game. They will host Franciscan University at 12 pm on Hilbert’s varsity playing field.
