HAMBURG, NY – After big conference wins over the weekend, the Hilbert College softball team suffered two losses at home today. Hitting was not a problem for either team in the opening game as they combined for a 7 home runs. Medaille College jumped out to a big lead and carried that to a 16-5 win. Hilbert rebounded and held a 2-1 advantage through two innings in the second game before the Mavericks scored seven unanswered runs and rode to a 13-2 nightcap win.
Jaelyn Gotham started in the circle for Hilbert, but after six batters, and a 6-0 score,
Natalie Whitman rotated in and finished the game. Medaille's first six batters connected for 3 home runs which put the Hawks in the early hole.
Elissa Hall and
Kayla Lansberry found the ball in the bottom of the second inning to enter Hilbert into the Home Run Derby and the Hawks waited until the 4th inning for
Kateland Ball to join the party.
Lansberry finished with 3 hits and Hall followed with 2 and they both earned double baggers. Hilbert had one fewer hit than Medaille (13-12) but stranded 7 runners on base.
Katie Pettis knocked in
Eliza Stringham to put the Hawks on the board first in the second game. Medaille responded with a score before Hilbert netted another run from
Pettis’ sacrifice fly in the second inning. Medaille added 3 runs off their four hits in the third before grabbing four more runs in the fourth to pull away.
Brittany Hancy finished with three hits, scoring one run.
The Hawks have a few days off before they travel to Altoona, PA on April 14th for their 2pm double header match against PS Altoona.
