HAMBURG, NY – Seven different Hawks contributed to Hilbert’s offensive punch in their 10-4 victory over Franciscan University April 13. With the win, the Hawks earned the program’s first sweep over an opponent in their inaugural season of competition.
Rachael Bergman, Sarah Lorusso and Chantelle Mikolajcza led the 2-6 Hawks after scoring 2 goals each. Franciscan (1-13) survived the very cold and windy afternoon with four players connecting for scores.
After only seventy-three seconds of action, the Barons snuck one past Hilbert’s Meghan Stewart for their only lead of the day. Hilbert went on 7-goal tear and took a 7-2 half time hold. With three more Hilbert scores to open the second half, the Hawks put the game away and didn’t sweat the two late Baron goals.
Robbi Bailey, Jordan Botsford, Nicole Blair and Harlie Decker each earned a point for Hilbert who doubled-up the Barons in shots (34-14). Hilbert won 11 draw controls with Mikolajcza grabbing 3. Botsford and Blair scooped up game-highs of 5 ground balls and Lorusso attempted 8 shots.
With two games remaining on their schedule, Hilbert will celebrate their senior day next Saturday, April 20th. The Hawks will finish their first year of Division III play at Mount Union College April 27th.
