Altoona, PA – The Hilbert College softball team ran into a hot-hitting Penn State Altoona squad April 14 and suffered two Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference losses to the league leading Lions.
It took Altoona four batting innings to capture the 19 – 0 opening win, while the night cap went five full innings. Hilbert moved to 5-15 (3-7 AMCC) while Altoona improved to 17-5 (10-2 AMCC).
Junior Natalie Whitman earned the Hawks only two hits on the day. Her first came as a double in the fourth inning of the first game and she singled again, in the fourth inning in the night cap.
The Lions started the morning game with back-to-back six run innings off a combination of eight hits and four Hilbert errors. They continued to build the lead with seven more runs by the bottom of the fourth. After the Hawks went four batters deep in the top of the 5th without a run, the Lions took the first game with ease. In the second game, Altoona was again consistent earning runs in four of their five at bats. They finished the game with three runs to cap the 8-0 win.
Jaelyn Gotham faced 17 batters and Whitman saw 19 in her 2.2 innings of the opening game. Senior Devan Jonathan faced 30 batters and finished with 3 strike outs in the nightcap.
The Hawks are scheduled to travel to Pitt-Bradford Tuesday, April 16th for a 3pm double header.
