CAZENOVIA, NY – Leading with 7 points each on the day, Sean Purtill and John Pingitore propelled the Hilbert College men’s lacrosse team to a 16-11 road NEAC win over Cazenovia College, lifting the Hawks into second place in league standings. Hilbert dominated Cazenovia statistically to earn their second straight league win while improving to 3-1 (6-3 overall). Cazenovia dropped to 1-3 (3-6 overall).
Purtill led with 6 goals while Pingitore chipped in 5 tallies. Ian Holtby was credited with 2 assists matching Pingitore’s efforts.
Hilbert opened the game with an aggressive first quarter outscoring the Wildcats 7-1. Elliott Russillio added a score to Purtill and Pingitore’s big splash. The Hawks and Cazenovia traded goals the rest of the way which resulted in the big win for Hilbert.
The Hawks held advantages in shots (54-33), ground balls (41-27) and face-off wins (19 of the 27).
William Wagner earned 7 saves in net for Hilbert and Nick Kieffer won 17 of the 24 face-offs he participated in and many of his game-high 15 ground balls were picked up from there. Doug Takac and Kyle Mackowiak each scooped up 4 ground balls.
Hilbert returns to action this Saturday when they host La Roche College in a non-conference game which starts at 2pm.
