HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert College announced Professor John D’Amico will serve as Interim Director of Athletics while a national search for the college’s permanent replacement of outgoing athletics director, Sue Viscomi, is conducted this summer.
“I am pleased to announce the appointment of John D’Amico as Interim Director of Athletics,” Hilbert College President Cynthia Zane said. “John’s role will be vital to maintaining and guiding the athletics department into and through the summer months.”
D’Amico joined Hilbert’s business faculty in 1994 and currently presides as President of the Faculty Senate. He has also served as the faculty advisor to the men’s soccer team and the ski club.
“I am excited to serve in this role,” D’Amico said. “I can’t thank President Zane enough for this opportunity. I have always enjoyed my involvement with the athletics department and this provides me the opportunity to be engaged and immersed in the day-to-day operations.”
Viscomi announced last month that she would be leaving at the end of the academic year for the Director of Athletics post at SUNY Oswego.
“I enjoyed my time at Hilbert immensely and I really appreciated Cynthia (Zane) giving me the opportunity to build this program,” Viscomi said. “I am confident with Cynthia’s strong advocacy for growing the athletics department, Hilbert will continue to take positive strides competing at the NCAA Division III level.”
The national search and review of applications is ongoing. Interested candidates should visit the Hilbert website (http://www.hilbert.edu/about-hilbert/human-resources/jobs) to view the job description.
