Game One Box Game Two Box
KEUKA PARK, NY – Hilbert College finished their 2013 baseball season with a road trip to Keuka College May 2nd. Freshman Cody Ashford went four for seven (.571), hitting two doubles and one triple to power the Hawks offense on the day. Chris Hoak added three hits in his final outing as a Hawk as the Storm took both games (9-2, 7-0).
Ashford opened the day with a triple to center field and was pushed home by freshman Paul Wujek’s single to left field, giving the Hawks their first lead of the day. Keuka responded right away with a single run in the bottom of the inning knotting the game at 1-1.
After three scoreless innings by both teams, the Storm put together a big bottom of the fifth when they scored five runs off three hits and one home run.
In the top of the sixth, Garrett Pauly started things for the Hawks with a double to right center and made it home for Hilbert’s second run of the day off a throwing error by the Keuka catcher. The hosts tallied another three-run home run in the bottom of the inning to close out the 9-2 final.
Sophomore Justin Hulbert and freshman Matt Goraj spent time on the mound and their combined efforts sent four bases back to the dug-out while giving up seven hits.
In the second game, Hilbert never ran beyond third base dropping their final game of the season, 7-0. Freshman Tyler Roth finished with two strike-outs giving up five hits in the 3.2 innings pitched. Pauly closed the game, striking out two while giving up four hits.
Hilbert (3-31) improved over the course of the season, and with a several first-year players contributing in 2013, the 2014 season should be one of promise with the experience gained this season.
