2013 Baseball AMCC All-Conference
PITTSBURGH, PA – Hilbert’s senior Chris Hoak (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) repeated while junior Joe Pernick (Tonawanda, NY/St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute) earned his first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference All-Conference selection award this week. Both Hilbert College baseball players were voted to the AMCC Second Team All-Conference by the league coaches at the conclusion of the 2013 season.
Mount Aloysius College senior Aaron Kovach and Penn State Behrend senior Ryan Jacobs led the list of honorees. Kovach was voted Player of the Year while Jacobs earned the Pitcher of the Year award posting a 1.19 ERA while holding opposing hitters to a meager .200 BA. Behrend’s freshman outfielder John Hlavinka was selected as the Newcomer of the Year and the Lions’ skipper Paul Benim earned Coach of the Year honors.
Hoak {in photo to right} led the Hawks with 37 hits (.356) knocking in team best 22 runs with a (.462) slugging percentage. He finished the season hitting six doubles, one triple and one homerun while striking out only five times during his 30 games. The short stop turned 13 double-plays on defense and covered 16.1 innings on the mound, striking out eleven while giving up only eight walks.
Pernick {in photo to left} earned his first post-season award hitting clutch shots for the Hawks. His 109 at bats, mostly in the fourth hole, led to 34 hits (.312). Pernick started 33 games and drove home a team second-best 19 runs while connecting for three double-baggers and knocking one homer over the fence in Hamburg.
In a rebuilding year with fifteen first-year athletes on the roster, Hilbert (3-31) completed the 2013 with a very young team. For the second year in a row, the Hawks received post-season honors bestowed by the AMCC baseball coaches.
