HAMBURG, N.Y. – After a national search, Ahyana King has been named Director of Multicultural Affairs at Hilbert College. King began her new role earlier this month.
King has over 10 years of experience in the mental health and higher education professions. Most recently, King served as the Director of Intercultural Affairs at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. She was responsible for designing, implementing, and assessing the programs, trainings, and services which directly supported students from historically underrepresented and underserved populations and promoted interculturalism across campus. She also served on the Diversity Committee, Student Life Committee, and Academic Resources Committee.
Prior to Washington College, King was the Assistant Dean of Intercultural Student Development at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. She administered educational workshops and training opportunities for staff, faculty, students, and community members as it pertained to diversity, equity, identity, inclusion, leadership, and cultural competence. King was a member of the Retention Committee, Institutional Diversity Committee, and Act Six Scholarship Steering Committee.
King also has experience as a Clinical Counselor and Wellness Programs Coordinator at Penn State University Brandywine and as a Clinical Counselor and Counseling Advocate at Women Organized Against Rape in Philadelphia. She has also held various positions as a Certified HIV Counselor and Tester, a Housing Specialist, and a Youth Prevention Case Manager and Program Coordinator.
King earned her Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Walden University and her bachelor’s degree in human development and family science from Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
King, originally from Philadelphia, currently resides in Hamburg.
