HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College introduces Sexual Health and Relationship Education (SHARE) Week, which includes various programming that is interdisciplinary, thought-provoking, scholastic, innovative, and applicable to student experiences in order to promote a holistic understanding of sexual and interpersonal health. SHARE Week will be held from September 26-30.
The week will focus on consent and sexual assault, men’s and women’s health, the current hook-up culture, and sexuality. Below is a complete list of the week’s events.

Monday, September 26th:
Consent Ribbon Pledge
12:30pm-2:30pm Bogel Hall Front Foyer
- Students will take part in an activity to recognize the importance of consent and the understanding of “yes means yes”. They will sign a pledge stating that they will consciously seek out potential partners’ consent and will also have the opportunity to put on a temporary tattoo reaffirming the importance of consent.
Hilbert in Heels
6:30pm Trinity Hall 1st Floor
- Male-identifying Hilbert students will lead a walk from Trinity Hall around campus to the Pond in front of Franciscan Hall in order to raise awareness of the difficulty and vulnerability female-identifying student experience walking in heels. The male students will be accompanied and supported by female students who cheer them on as they experience role reversal.
Candlelight Prayer Service
7:00pm Pond
- Led by the Director of Campus Ministry and Mission Integration, Jeff Papia, students will gather in front of the Pond at the conclusion of the Hilbert in Heels walk. Jeff will lead the students in prayer and also ask the students to take part in reading some passages. This reflection is meant to pray for those who been sexually assaulted and increase awareness of the severity of these acts on our campus and around the world.
Tuesday, September 27th:
The Hook-Up (Hilbert Passport Event)
1:45pm Swan Auditorium
- The Hook Up, designed by Catharsis Productions, is an engaging audience-participation program led by trained educators who speak “student.” It’s an unflinching, fun, and transformational approach to the hot-button topic of hook-up culture and sexual violence on virtually every campus.
Family Feud: Shatter the Myth
7:00pm Upper Level Campus Center
- We surveyed 100 students and they said to come to this “edu-taining” program! After polling the students at Hilbert on consent and sexual health we will post their most popular answers on a screen, Family Feud-style, for teams of 5 to win fantastic prizes! Come out to enjoy this engaging game show and learn something while you’re at it.
Wednesday, September 28th:
Cultural Competency Training (Hilbert Passport Event)
3:15 Bogel Hall 160
- Cultural Competency training, also known as Safe Zone Training, will be presented by the Pride Center of WNY. The focus of the training is for members of the Hilbert community to be trained on being sensitive to the thoughts, feelings, and experiences of their LGBT students and co-workers. Topics that are addressed include the basics of appropriate language, definitions of terms, deconstruction of stereotypes, and more specialized issues, as needed.
Thursday, September 29th:
STI Testing
12:00-4:00pm Swan Auditorium
- The Erie County Department of Health will be holding an STI (Sexually Transmitted Infections) testing in the Swan Auditorium for all students interested. Privacy will be respected and students will be able to learn their status.
Act Now Training (By-stander Intervention Training)
7:00pm Bogel Hall 145
- Director of Residence Life & Judicial Affairs, Jill Cole-Splawski, will be leading Act Now training to educate students on effective ways to be proactive in helping others. The training will help students develop skills and confidence when responding to problems on campus including alcohol abuse, hazing, eating disorders, sexual assault and discrimination, among others.
Friday, September 30th:
Date Night
7:00pm Upper Level Campus Center
- Relax at the end of SHARE Week with a night with close friends or significant others. The Upper Level Campus Center will be used for students to celebrate their healthy relationships while going through some small activities on how to maintain them.
