-- Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph founded the college in 1957 --
HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College will hold a commemorative ceremony to honor the legacy of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph (FSSJ), the college’s founding congregation, on Thursday, March 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the Franciscan Hall atrium on the college’s campus in Hamburg, NY. Most Reverend Edward M. Grosz, Auxiliary Bishop of Buffalo, will be in attendance and will offer the opening prayer for the ceremony.
The ceremony will consist of a short program, including the unveiling of the FSSJ Legacy Wall, which will honor the nearly 100 members of the FSSJ who have served at Hilbert College over its 60-year history. The ceremony will be followed by light refreshments.
Throughout 2017, Hilbert will celebrate its 60th anniversary with various initiatives, including two commemorative magazines, inaugural giving day (which raised over $52,000 for student scholarships), and True Blue Homecoming Weekend this fall.
Hilbert invites alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends of the college to submit their Hilbert stories and photos via our Celebrate 60 website at www.hilbert.edu/Celebrate60.
