Open Forum for Students will be held today, Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 4:30 PM in Swan Auditorium
To recap this week’s events, the Hilbert College Campus Safety Department received information, indirectly, that a student on campus was in possession of a weapon. It was determined that evening that the threat was NOT credible and there was NO IMMINENT threat to the campus.
After following up with Student Life Staff, the Town of Hamburg Police Department, and Erie County Crisis Services, it was determined further evaluation was needed. The student in question is in police custody and we currently have no information on their investigation, and the evidence and/or witnesses they have obtained.
Hilbert College is steadfast in our commitment to protect the safety and rights of all of our students. We understand the concern among our campus community about the need for better communication. We recognize our communication flow should have been better and more frequent. We are committed to improve and enhance that communication moving forward.
We want to stress how much we value the feedback and suggestions that we have received thus far. After every emergency situation, it is standard operating procedure to evaluate our response, which we plan to do in the coming days. We will look very closely at our emergency management plan, and expect that we will find areas where we need to make more improvements.
The safety of our community is our highest priority, and we thank all members of the College community for your support as we continue our work over the days and weeks to come.
