HAMBURG, N.Y. – Megan Valentine has been named Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Hilbert College President Cynthia Zane, Ed.D announced today. Valentine, who has more than 16 years of leadership experience in Division III athletics and with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), will begin her new role on August 6.
“I am confident that Megan’s extensive experience in NCAA Division III will be extremely valuable in continuing the great momentum we have experienced in our athletic program,” Zane said. “We are pleased to have a leader of her caliber to serve in this vital role.”
Valentine will continue to build on the athletic department’s success both on and off the playing fields and courts. The women’s basketball team collected Hilbert’s first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title and secured an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. Additionally, the academic success of Hilbert’s student athletes remains a tremendous point of pride, as the 2017-18 student-athletes marked the department’s 14th consecutive semester achieving a 3.0 grade point average while the retention rate currently holds strong at 85%.
Since 2010, Valentine has served as an Assistant Athletic Director of Athletics & Recreation at SUNY Fredonia. She was designated the department’s Senior Woman Administrator shortly thereafter and was promoted to Associate Director of Athletics & Recreation in March 2016.
Valentine had oversight of all athletic and recreation facilities, facility employees and the recreation programs at Fredonia. She oversaw the $2.5 million renovation of the Blue Devils Fitness Center in 2013, spearheaded the addition of signage at athletic facilities and initiated an annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
Valentine has served as a guest lecturer and has held senior roles in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) which helped to shape the student-athlete experience in Fredonia’s athletic conference. She was a four-year member of the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Committee, was the NCAA Division III representative for the Women in the Spotlight Brand Leadership Institute and is a 2017 graduate of the NCAA Pathways Program.
Prior to her tenure at Fredonia, Valentine served as the Director of Membership and Convention Services with the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA), now recognized as Women Leaders in College Sports. She also spent time at Wellesley College as an Assistant Athletic Director and softball coach as well as the Compliance and Game Management Coordinator at MacMurray College.
Valentine earned her bachelor’s degree in sport management from Medaille College and a Master of Education in Sport Administration from Bowling Green State University.
