STUDENT COUNSELING CENTER

Students in front of apartmentsThe Counseling Center offers a professional, confidential, and safe environment where all concerns of the student are treated with dignity and respect. Using a holistic approach to counseling, the counseling staff provides educational encouragement and support for a healthy mind, body, and spirit. We are also here to assist you with your college experience and will offer personal counseling, group support, and/or referrals depending on your individual need. No personal conflict or concern is considered too great or too small; and confidentiality is our top priority.

There is no charge for these services, whether you are living on or off campus.

Students come to counseling for many reasons. Counseling offers you the opportunity to learn about yourself and how to resolve personal problems. It is often helpful to talk with someone who is not personally involved with your situation and who can offer a different perspective to your situation.

We can offer help if you are experiencing anxiety about your academic performance, having difficulties adjusting to college life and pressures, dealing with family problems or the loss of someone close to you, have a drug or alcohol problem, or other concerns that may arise.

The Counseling Center is dedicated to serviing our population with tools that will enhance a healthy life-style and offer a meaningful personal and educational experience here at Hilbert. Seminars and workshops will be available throughout the year and will be advertised in the school newspaper and posted around campus.

A wide range of resource materials concerning mental health and wellness issues are also available to all students free of charge and located on the first floor of Saint Joseph's Hall.

Counseling Center Goals

Our goal is to provide counseling services that will adhere to the highest level of confidentiality, ethical, legal, and professional standards. We will embrace the needs of our students and address the issues that will enhance the educational experience. This will be achieved by:
  • Providing a warm, welcoming, empathetic, and easily accessible counseling experience.
  • Promoting programming opportunities that will facilitate the personal and psychological growth and development of our students and will offer tools that will assist with academic success and enhance leadership development.
  • Offering a broad range of resource materials that will assist in the holistic educational process of personal development.
  • Promoting a healthy adjustment to college by offering pertinent primary prevention and awareness programs at orientation and throughout the year.
  • Emulating the Franciscan values (Respect, Service, Peace, Joy, Compassion, Hope, Integrity, and Vision) and offering our students avenues to learn and grow in these areas.

Our mission, values & Vision

Mission: The Mission of the Counseling Center and the services we offer is to facilitate the cognitive, emotional, and social development of students so that they may optimally reach academic success and accomplish their personal, social, and career goals.
