Redhawks Soar Past Hilbert

PITTSBURGH, PA: On Saturday afternoon, January 23, the Hilbert men’s basketball team traveled to Pittsburgh, PA to take on AMCC opponent La Roche College. Despite outscoring the Redhawks 41-39 in the second half, La Roche came out on top with an 81-70 victory. Hilbert was lead by sophomore guard Chris Parrott (Warsaw, NY/ Warsaw) scoring 14 points along with freshman forward Roman Brown (Buffalo, NY/ South Park) adding 15 points. Freshman forward Jayson Weigel (Hamburg, NY/ Hamburg) also had a season high and career high 12 points in the loss.
Hilbert’s record now sits at 2-15 on the season and 1-11 in the AMCC. La Roche improved to 10-8 overall and 7-6 in the conference.
Hilbert was off to a slow start trailing 29-42 at the end of the first twenty minutes of play. Parrott led the Hawks with 9 points and 4 rebounds at the half.
In the second half, Weigel recorded 12 points shooting a perfect 5-5 from the floor and 2-2 from the free throw line. With 15:31 remaining in the game La Roche extended their lead to 26 points. Hilbert chipped away at the deficit for the rest of the game, but would only come within 11 points resulting in the 70-81 loss.
La Roche out rebounded the Hawks 32-22 for the game while Dylan Grazier added 18 points in the conference win.
Hilbert will face Medaille College at home on Wednesday, January 27, at 8 pm. Hilbert and Medaille squared off earlier this year. Medaille was victorious in the match up outscoring the Hawks 87-65.
