PITTSBURGH, PA – Hilbert College senior Maggie Fage and Pitt-Bradford senior Matthew Lee were selected as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Faculty Athletic Representatives Award winner and lead the list of top scholar athletes in the 11-team conference. Each member institution is given the opportunity to select one male and one female member to represent them on the conference All-Academic Team. From those team members, the faculty athletic representative from each institution selects one male and one female recipient of the Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR) Award. To be eligible, nominees must participate in an NCAA-sponsored sport. Primary consideration is given to academic achievement, followed by athletic accomplishments.
The 2009-2010 FAR selections were awarded to two diligent student-athletes: Fage (Delmar, NY) was a human services major with a 3.92 GPA. She was a three sport athlete, competing as a two-year captain of the soccer team and a member of the cross country and softball teams as well. A tennis student-athlete, Bradford's Lee majored in accounting and business management with a minor in economics, and finished his academic career with a 3.91 GPA.
Joining Fage as Hilbert College’s male representative on the conference All-Academic Team is Matt Begeal (Northville, NY). The multi-sport athlete graduated with a degree in computer security and information assurance with a cumulative 3.61 GPA while serving as captain for both the soccer and baseball teams the final year of his 4-year career on both squads.
Fage is the second female student-athlete to be honored by the AMCC with the FAR Award. Katy Dorsheimer graduated in 2005 after participating on the cross country team for four years and earned a degree in psychology with a cumulative grade point average of 3.93.
Both Fage and Begeal joined fifty-seven other student-athletes from Hilbert College who were named to the Academic All-Conference team in April having earned an overall GPA of 3.2 or higher.
