Elmira, NY – The Hilbert men’s soccer team was coming off back to back victories when they traveled to Elmira College for a non-conference match on October 14th. The host team took full advantage of their home field advantage and shocked the Hawks early in the match to take a 6-1 win. Elmira had a 4-1 lead in the game’s first 15 minutes of play and cruised to a 5-1 lead at half time. The Soaring Eagles held a (21-4) “shots” advantage in the first 45 minutes of play forcing freshman goalie Jeremy Kraska (Elma, NY/Iroquois) into 9 saves.

Hilbert put a marker on the board at the 7 minute mark closing the gap in score (1-2) at that time. Junior Eric Russell (Hickory, NC/Iroquois) netted one off a pass from junior David Walkow (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) but that would be it for Hilbert’s scoring for the day. Freshman Moehammed Ahmed (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) {in photo to right} had 2 shots on goal to match Russell’s two attempts. Ed Heffron, the defender from Cardinal O’Hara high school, also booted one at the box, forcing a keeper save. Kraska played his first full game and took his first loss for the Hawks.
Hilbert will prepare for conference opponent La Roche College on October 16th with a 3pm kick.
