STEUBENVILLE, OH - Hilbert opened with a 6-0 lead at Franciscan University and held on to win 10-8 in the second game of a double-bill played in Ohio April 17.  The Hawks split the AMCC league games with a 23-6 early loss and the late afternoon win improving their conference record to 3-7 (4-16 overall). With the Franciscan win the Hawks now have won 3 conference games which is a first since Hilbert joined the AMCC in 2004; and there are still eight more league games to be played this season.

Franciscan dominated the bases hitting 10 doubles in the first game and scored 23 runs in the three-hour long session. The Barons hit through five Hilbert pitchers with most of their damage done in the nine-run 7th inning.
Having a short memory span was a good thing for the Hawks. They started the game holding the host team to no runs through the first three innings. During that time, Hilbert rocked the ball right out of the gate. Matt Militello (Depew, NY/Lancaster) opened with a double and was followed by a Ryan LaCorte (Cheektowaga, NY/JFK) triple.   The Hawks built a 10-2 advantage after 4 innings and held on to win in the top of the 7th. LaCorte took the win on the mound (5.2 innings) and Nick Sherman (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) finished the day off the last inning and half.
Freshman Frank Mancuso (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) continued his hot hitting streak going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI for the day. Infielder Frank Simmeth (Cheektowaga, NY/St. Mary’s) and centerfielder Militello each added 2 RBIs for the day.
Hilbert is scheduled to play Medaille College at McCarthy Park on THURSDAY, April 21. This game has been rescheduled due to field and weather conditions expected for the original game date of April 19.
