Memminger Passes for 46 Assists in Loss

CRESSON, PA – Playing in their most competitive match of the season, the Hilbert women’s volleyball team dropped a 3-2 contest at Mount Aloysius College October 22. The Hawks were down 2-0 after the first two sets and stormed back to capture sets three and four before succumbing in the fifth and final set. Hilbert moves to 1-6 in AMCC league standings as Mount Aloysius improves to 3-4.

Mount Aloysius won the first two sets by identical scores (25-20) before Hilbert turned the corner and secured the middle sets (25-22, 25-23). Both teams played with urgency in the final 15-point set. Hilbert took an early 8-6 lead but Mount Aloysius won a few balls in a row and held on for a 15-11 set and match victory.

Hilbert’s strong offensive passing contributed to the team’s five-set contest length.  Jordan Botsford and Chelsea Reischuck both earned double digit kills that combined with Shannon Memminger’s huge passing day. Botsford led with 13 kills and Reischuck added 11 kills with 15 digs. Memminger passed for 46 assists, which set a new Hilbert College individual game high record. 

Defensively, the Hawks had four players hit for double digs led by Kayla Lewis (19), Reischuck (15), Rachel Kwiatkowski (15) and Memminger (10). Botsford played tough at the net leading with 5 blocks (3 solo) as did Kwiatkowski who earned 3 blocks.

On October 26, Hilbert hosts D’Youville College in their last home match of the 2011 season.
