ALFRED RESULTS WASH & JEFF RESULTS
ALFRED, NY – Devan Jonathan and Jordan Botsford each finished the day with 16 kills as the women’s volleyball team went 1-1 at the tri-match hosted by Alfred University September 17. The Hawks beat the hosts (3-0) before losing to Washington and Jefferson (3-1) which moves their overall record to 2-4 this season.
Against Alfred, Botsford was very active at the net (10 kills) and away from the center line (13 digs). Jonathan chipped in 9 kills and 3 service aces, but Rachel Kwiatkowski’s (.417) middle hitting led the Hawks offense. Shannon Memminger distributed 29 assists in the 3-sets (25-23, 2826, 25-19) moving the Hawks to 2-3 at that point.
In the second match of the afternoon, Washington and Jefferson commanded three of the four sets played (25-111, 25-16, 22-25, 25-11) pushing the Hawks home with a split on the day. Hilbert’s hitting percentage in the second match was in the negative (-.020) even though Memminger earned 22 assists off the team’s 23 kills. Jonathan’s 7 kills and 8 digs (2 aces) led the offense for a second match in a row.
Besides their 16 kills, Botsford had a team-leading 20 digs while Jonathan finished with 14. Sophomore Chelsea Reischuck (14 kills and 16 digs) completed Hilbert’s three-person attack for the afternoon matches.
The Hawks will finally play a home match September 21 when they face Elmira’s JV team at 7pm.
Then AMCC league play begins September 24 with a four-match set up at Medaille College. Hilbert plays only Pitt-Greensburg and Franciscan University that afternoon. Medaille also only plays those two institutions. The Hawks and Mavericks will not play each other that day since they have an AMCC contest scheduled for September 28 at Medaille.
