Chelsea Reischuck and Maria Linares have been named the Hilbert College Co-Student-Athletes of the Month for October, 2011.
In the 38 sets the women’s volleyball team played in October, Reischuck led the Hawks hitting with 80 kills, averaging 2.11 kills per set. During the team’s 4-8 month, the Hawks went 2-4 in AMCC league play beating La Roche in straight sets and going 3-1 against D’Youville. The South Wales native had double digit kills in 4 of the team’s 12 matches and she earned 15 service aces and had 144 digs for the month. Reischuck’s most impressive match was the league victory over La Roche (10/1) when she drove home 13 kills and earned 12 digs.
Reischuck is a criminal justice major, carries a 3.60 GPA and is a member of the AMCC All-Academic team.
Linares was the only women’s cross country team member to compete in all of the races this fall. The freshman from Lackawanna improved her times each week and had her best race at the end of the season, even though the racing conditions weren’t so favorable. In October, Linares ran three 5K events posting her fastest time of 24:20 to capture the woman’s race at the Hilbert Invitational October 20. Additionally, she ran the Beaver Island State Park course (6K) twice. In the first race (Medaille Invitational) as a warm-up to the AMCC championship race, Linares took home a fifth place ribbon (31:30) racing against three other schools October 8. Three weekends later, on the same course, she ran a fast 28:35 in a mud pit pacing the Hawks with a 20th place overall finish.
Linares is a psychology major.
