Digital Campus Initiative
We recognize the financial strain our students go through, paying for tuition, books, laptops, while also juggling an education. At Hilbert, we are introducing our new Digital Campus Initiative, dedicated to keeping our students focused on their degrees while we handle the rest. Each full time Hilbert College undergraduate student taking classes on campus will have access to a laptop and improved wireless access across all parts of campus.
We don’t just provide laptops – we also supply the required materials! Our Digital Campus Initiative includes an all-access course materials program that allows students to have all their materials by the first day of class. The cost is included in tuition and is eligible to be covered by financial aid so there will be no surprises about costs after enrollment.

-
- Can I access my course materials on my mobile device or tablet?
- Can I opt-out of the laptop program?
- Because the laptop program is part of the broader Digital Campus Initiative, students cannot opt out of paying the fee for the comprehensive fee. The goal of this initiative is to provide students with the technology necessary to meet their academic needs at Hilbert College. If a student already owns a device that will help to meet their needs, they do not have to accept their college-issued laptop.
- If something should happen to the student’s personal machine, Hilbert IT can provide a temporary loaner laptop while repairs are being made.
- What if I already have a laptop?
- We understand there may be situations where students will already have a laptop for personal use. All Hilbert students will have access to a school-issued laptop, if they choose to use it. If students choose to use their personal laptop, Hilbert IT will have a large pool of loaner laptops available should something happen to the student’s personal computer during the academic year. Students will be able to sign out a loaner laptop for a temporary period or they could choose to use the loaner laptop for the remainder of their Hilbert academic career.
- How and when will I get my laptop?
- New and returning residential and commuter students will have the opportunity to pick up their laptop when they come to campus in the Fall. We are working to create a coordinated process where students will report to a classroom at a specific day and time to sign out their laptop and test to make sure they can successfully log in and connect to Hilbert’s wireless network. Students should expect to get notified in late July or early August with their pickup day and time. Please note, we are working with campus partners to understand when students will be reporting to campus to ensure all students have their laptop prior to the start of classes.
- If I don’t use Hilbert’s laptop, what benefit do I get from this initiative?
- Hilbert’s Digital Campus Initiative is aimed at providing necessary technology and security resources to all Hilbert students including laptops, electronic textbooks, improved and expanded Wi-Fi along with card access to all Hilbert buildings
- What happens if the student needs repairs to their Hilbert laptop?
- Hilbert IT Services should be able to resolve most issues with the Hilbert laptop. Should their laptop be considered defective or require more extensive repairs, Hilbert IT will work with a local repair shop to resolve those issues. Should the student experience issues with their laptop while away from campus during a break period, HP will provide ‘Pick up and Return’ support
- Students are responsible for the cost of repairs for damage linked to careless or negligent use or loss. Students are responsible for the replacement of the laptop PC if it is lost or stolen. Hilbert College recommends checking with your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policy for coverage in the event the laptop is lost or stolen.
- Who owns the Hilbert laptop?
- The laptop is the property of Hilbert College.
- Do I have to return the laptop when I leave?
- If a student has successfully completed their academic program and has participated in the laptop initiative for more than 3 full academic years, they will have to opportunity to buy from Hilbert for a significantly reduced rate
- Students that unexpectedly leave Hilbert College prior to degree completion are required to return the laptop. Students will have the opportunity to buy the laptop for a pro-rated dollar amount. Students that do not return their computer within 2 months of leaving the college will be responsible to pay a pro-rated amount for the balance of the computer.
