Earn your Master of Social Work faster with our 3+2 program, providing a unique opportunity for Hilbert students to accelerate their journey into the social work profession. This partnership with the University at Buffalo School of Social Work allows you to complete your bachelor’s degree and MSW in just five years, saving you a year of time and tuition compared to the traditional six-year path.

Program Structure

  • Years 1-3: You’ll complete your Psychology (BA) or Human Services (BS) major requirements and general education coursework at Hilbert College, working toward 90 undergraduate credits.
    • During your junior year, you’ll meet with your department chair to begin the eligibility screening process. If approved, a screening form is submitted to UB School of Social Work admissions, and you’ll complete UB’s graduate application, following the same process as UB’s Traditional Full-Time MSW program.
  • Years 4-5: If admitted, you’ll enroll as a UB School of Social Work graduate student and complete the two-year MSW curriculum, following the same course of study as UB’s Traditional Full-Time MSW students.

3+2 Program Requirements

  • Declare a major eligible for the 3+2 Program (Psychology or Human Services).
  • Complete 90 undergraduate credits, including common core and major requirements.
  • Earn a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 by the end of your junior year. (Meeting this GPA does not guarantee admission.)
  • Meet with your department chair during junior year to begin eligibility screening.
  • Apply to the UB School of Social Work 3+2 MSW program option and meet UB’s additional prerequisites.

Note: Transfer students should meet with their department chair to have credits evaluated before applying, as the five-year timeline may not be possible depending on transfer credits.

3+2 UB Partner Programs

Tuition

For the first three years, students pay Hilbert’s undergraduate tuition and apply for financial aid through Hilbert. Once accepted into UB’s MSW program, students are billed UB’s MSW tuition rate and apply for financial aid as a UB graduate student for the remaining two years.

Career Outcomes

The combination of a Psychology or Human Services bachelor’s degree and an MSW prepares graduates for careers in both clinical/direct practice and administration, leadership, and policy (macro) practice. Clinical social workers may pursue Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) status and provide mental health therapy in private practice, healthcare facilities, schools, and other settings. Macro-level social workers may serve as program directors, community service managers, or agency administrators – researching community needs, developing and fundraising for programs, and advancing policy on behalf of individuals and communities.
