Campus Safety Office
The Dispatch Center is located in the Campus Center, Lower Level The Campus Safety Office is operated by Campus Safety staff as described above. Campus Safety fields all incoming calls to the Campus Safety phone number (716) 479-1233, and dispatches Officers for all standard service needs and emergency situations. Campus Safety monitors security alarms, door alarms, fire safety systems and video surveillance. Campus Safety's goal is to provide outstanding service and support to each issue that arises.
Campus Safety Staff
Campus Safety is staffed by the Director who oversees a team of Campus Safety Officers who are licensed by New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services (NYDCJS) and have first aid/CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training. Officers also receive training in other areas throughout the year. Hilbert’s Campus Safety Officers are not sworn Police Officers and are governed by Section 89N of the NY General Business Law (GBL). Campus Safety heavily relies on the Town of Hamburg Police Department (THPD) to perform arrests on campus and only have very limited civil arrest authority pursuant to NY CPS 140.30., if necessary. All officers on staff receive continual training on security protocols and procedures. Training is provided through a number of different sources, including Allied Universal (private security company), the NYS Division of Criminal Justice and other Law Enforcement agencies in the Western New York area.
Patrolling
Officers patrol by foot patrol, trained bike patrol units, and a vehicle patrol unit for maximum mobility and coverage around campus and to ensure a quick response to all buildings, at all times.

Yes, particularly when you compare Hilbert’s crime rate to other colleges of a similar size, our crime rate is very low. Campus safety and the Town of Hamburg Police Department work closely in providing a safe environment for all students, faculty and staff. You can do your part by being cautious, observant and willing to report suspicious or criminal activities.You can view our status in our annual Fire & Safety report.

In accordance with the Student Right-to-Know Act of 1990, Hilbert must provide information related to crime statistics and security measures to members of the campus community. The latest statistics are available in our annual Fire & Safety report.
Visitors can park in Lot D located between McGrath Library and the maintenance building, Lot C next to Hafner Recreation Center, Lot G behind Swan Auditorium, or Lot E between the library and Franciscan Hall. Overnight guests in the residence hall/apartments may use Lots A and B but must obtain an overnight guest pass from the residence hall director or Campus Safety. View our Campus Map.
Handicapped parking spaces are for handicapped individuals who have an approved parking permit to use these designated areas. Parking in these spaces without the proper permit will result in a parking violation and fine.
Come to campus safety to obtain a parking permit as soon as possible in the lower level of the Campus Center.
Due to a limited number of parking spots, you are not allowed to have more than one registered vehicle on campus. College employees may register more than one vehicle but only one may be on campus at a time.

No. Only new Hilbert students, faculty, and staff must register their vehicles upon arrival. Notify Campus Safety if vehicle information changes.
Community Relations
Hilbert’s Campus Safety Department has established strong working relationships with local law enforcement and emergency responders, including the Town of Hamburg Police and local fire departments. In addition to these key partners, Campus Safety also maintains active and positive communications with the neighboring community through participation in the Community Associations and periodic meetings with the Chief of THPD.
Effective partnerships enable the Hilbert’s Campus Safety team to keep our campus safe and secure.
Campus Safety is striving to employ a community policing model and philosophy that embraces collaboration between Campus Safety, Faculty, Staff, Students & Visitors. Thus, establishing these good and proactive community partnerships are a goal of the Campus Safety Department for problem solving and continued growth of the department.
