Institute for Applied AI

The Hilbert College Institute for Applied Artificial Intelligence (IAAI) exists to help students, faculty, and staff understand, navigate, and thoughtfully engage with a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence. Rooted in Hilbert’s Franciscan tradition, the Institute approaches AI not simply as a technology to be used, but as a powerful force that must be guided by respect, compassion, service, and integrity.
Artificial intelligence is transforming how we learn, work, communicate, and serve others. The Institute for Applied Artificial Intelligence provides curated resources, workshops, and real-world guidance that help students explore these changes with clarity and confidence. Its purpose is not only to prepare students for success in an AI-driven economy, but to challenge them to think critically about how technology affects people, communities, and the common good.
At its core, the Institute is about forming ethical leaders. By fostering both applied AI literacy and moral awareness, the Institute encourages students to use artificial intelligence responsibly and creatively in ways that serve others, protect human dignity, and contribute to a more humane world.
