Coming to Hilbert College in 2013, Tara Kazmark has taught composition and literature, as well as public speaking, and is also the writing coordinator.
In her role as an instructor, she primarily focusses on composition and recently developed a new course, Civic Learning through Reading and Writing. The course addresses significant issues in the natural and human world based on articulating one’s identity in a global context. The course helps students adapt and apply a deep understanding of multiple worldviews, experiences, and power structures, shows students how to take responsible actions, evaluate diverse perspectives as well as describes the role of key Franciscan values such as Respect, Compassion, Service, Peace, Hope and Integrity in shaping personal and public behavior.
In her role as the writing coordinator, Kazmark meets with both undergraduate and graduate students for professional writing tutoring in every discipline. She also holds workshops throughout the semester on citation styles (both MLA and APA), punctuation, paraphrase techniques, and writing introductions and conclusions. She is also a member of the Faculty Development Committee and enjoys the small community familial feel, that is, Hilbert.
