BUFFALO, N.Y. – Medaille College (3-4-1) picked up an important 2-0 win over visiting Hilbert College in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) men’s soccer Thursday afternoon. With the loss, Hilbert drops to 0-4 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
Medaille opened the scoring just 1:04 into the game with a goal by Steven DeGroff, his fourth of the season. Stephen Barker rounded out the scoring in the 55th minute with an unassisted breakaway.
The Mavericks peppered Hilbert goalie Tim Wieder (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) with 24 shots while the Hawks managed to get 10 off at their opponent. Jacob Opala (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) recorded a team-high five shots, while Wieder notched nine saves.
The Hawks next contest is at home Sept. 20 vs. Lycoming College. The match starts at 4 p.m.
