
BRADFORD, PA – League leading University of Pitt-Bradford (22-9, 14-2) scored a doubleheader shutout over Hilbert College on Monday to end the Hawks season at 3-36 (1-17). The Host Panthers scored a 10-0 win in game one and came back later in the day to register another 10-0 victory in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) baseball action.
After a 0-0 first inning, the host Panthers scored in each of the next five innings to gain early control of game one. Hilbert’s Joe Ferrara (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) earned the Hawks lone hit as Panthers pitcher Nate Jones picked up the win. The home team racked up 10 hits off Hawks losing pitcher Dallas Reinard (Smethport, PA/Smethport) (0-3) who threw three strikeouts in the game.
In the nightcap, the Panthers again struck early with three runs in the first, five in the third, and two in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Pitt-Bradford’s Andy Lipps picked up the win on the mound with the home team producing 11 hits off the arm of Hawks lefty, Glen Ufland (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon). Hilbert’s Travis Nowicki (Dewittville, NY/Chautauqua Lake) had a double while Reinard earned the Hawks other hit in a losing effort.
The Hawks finish the 2006 season in 10th place in the AMCC while Pitt-Bradford will look for the league regular season title with a win Tuesday over Frostburg State. Hilbert coach Randy Cialone will look forward to the scheduled return of 12 players for the 2007 season.
