BUFFALO, NY: On Wednesday, March 10, the Hilbert men’s volleyball team took on cross town rival and NECVA conference opponent, D’Youville College, for their final match of the 2010 season. D’Youville came away with the victory as they defeated the Hawks in three straight sets (14-30, 22-30, 25-30). The loss drops Hilbert’s overall record to (2-18) and (0-8) in the conference for the completion of their 2010 campaign.
RJ Sykora (Stow, OH/ Munroe Falls) closed out the season with a team-high 9 kills in the match. Junior Dan Wolfe (Rochester, NY/ Irondequoit) complimented Sykora on the offense tallying 8 kills of his own on the night. Vince Amico (Buffalo, NY/ Bishop Timon -St. Jude) remained solid from the setter position assisting 26 times throughout the three games played.
Wolfe and Sykora anchored the defense as well collecting 7 and 6 digs respectively while freshman Gary Gawera (Eden, NY/ Eden) contributed 5 digs of his own. Sophomore Eric Davies (Tonawanda, NY/Tonawanda) continued his presence at the net collecting 3 of the 6 blocking assists giving him a team best 23 for the 2010 season.
D’Youville was led by Jeremy Sajdak who had a game-high 11 kills, while JJ Senozetnik passed for 41 assists. The Spartans held the advantage at the net as well with 19 blocks to Hilbert’s 6.
This was the fourth meeting between the teams this season. D’Youville was victorious in all four meetings.
