GOWANDA, NY – Ryan Ratajczak dropped six strokes off his 2012 effort, as his 79 score led the Hawks to a 4th place finish in their 2013 Hilbert Invitational Golf tournament at the Gowanda Country Club. Penn State Behrend shot a team 312 score to claim the championship in the five-team field September 6.
Pitt Bradford’s 336 took second and Medaille finished with a 353, just three strokes ahead of Hilbert (356). D’Youville tallied a 375 on the par 72, 6,487 yard course.
Behrend’s Brian Popiecki and Dante Vetica shared low score (76) but Popiecki grabbed the trophy based on cards.
Bradford’s Andrew Bird and Behrend’s Roman Klaric tied for third (78) and Ratajczak (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park/Buffalo State) scooped up the 5th place with his 79.
John Maccia (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park/Erie CC) worked the course for an 84 while Gary Gawera (Eden, NY/Eden) shot a 96, one stroke ahead of Jake Reinecke (Hamburg, NY/Eden). Vinny Giamberdino (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) shot a 112.
Hilbert hops on a bus and will travel to central Pennsylvania for a quick back-to-back Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match-up. Sunday, the Hawks tee-off at 1:30pm in the Mount Aloysius Invite and then rise early Monday morning for an 8 am tee at the Penn State Altoona’s match.
