PORTLAND, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women’s cross country team put on a showing today at the Fredonia State Invitational. The Hawks captured a 5th place finish out-distancing cross town rivals for the first time in several years. Sophomore Kylie Reinholz led the Hawks’ charge completing the 5K course in 21:10.25, good for 22nd place.
The men’s cross country team ran in a close pack, but trailed the leaders by nine minutes. Sophomore Josh Walczuk was Hilbert’s fastest runner finishing the 8K course in 34:04.40 (32 points).
Edinboro finished with 17 points to win the women’s division followed by Fredonia (59), Behrend (74) and Mercyhurst (102). Medaille grabbed 6th place with 175 just four points ahead of D’Youville.
The top four men’s programs mirrored the women’s teams in terms of order finish with Edinboro taking the top five spots (15 points), Fredonia placing all their scorers in the top 20 (69 points). Behrend also placed all scorers in top 20 while earning 77 points and Mercyhurst pulled in 84 points ahead of D’Youville’s 156 and Hilbert’s 180.
Sarah Krolick led a strong Edinboro team with eight of the top ten finishers running for the Scotts.
Matt Link covered the course in 25:27.75 just 0:00.20 seconds ahead of fellow Edinboro teammate Bryan Deibel.
Hilbert freshman Paige Chatt ran a 21:29.09 (25th) and sophomore Shannon Ellis crossed in 23:20.52 (35). The Hawks other scoring runners were freshman Jennifer Cheatom (24:06.52) and sophomore Miranda Remondo (24:24.76) pulling in 40 and 42 points respectively.
Senior Matt Williams was about one second off Walczak’s pace for 33rd place. Junior Richard Landahl ran a 37:17.26 while freshman Emerson Miller finished in 40:16.14 ahead of junior John Sadowski’s 42:43.29.
Hilbert will continue to train for their next race in Erie, Pa on the Penn State Behrend campus September 14.
