Hilbert Announces New Board Members and Officers

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Peg Adams, Laurie Boreanaz Carra, Esq., Philip Perna, Steven Vanuga, and Lamont Williams have been named to the Hilbert College Board of Trustees. Hilbert also elected the following Board Officers: Chair Michael J. Sendor (Boston, NY), retired President of Nussbaumer & Clarke, Inc.; Vice Chair Fr. Michael Sajda, OFM Conv. (Hamburg, NY), President of St. Francis High School; and Secretary Jill Meyer (Orchard Park, NY), Human Resources Director for Baillie Lumber Co.          

Peg Adams photoPeg Adams (Ellicottville, NY) is currently the Managing Director of Chapman Associates.  Adams serves on several Advisory Boards in different industries and provides services to numerous start-up companies. She started her career as an accountant, progressed to CFO, and then assumed operational and general management responsibilities for both US and off shore manufacturing as President and COO. Adams earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from Medaille College.  Adams also earned her MBA from the State University of New York at Buffalo with honors.

Laurie Carra photoLaurie Boreanaz Carra, Esq., (Buffalo, NY) has over 30 years of experience in law, practicing in private practice, higher education, government service and corporate practice. She has served as law clerk for a Federal District Court Judge and also worked in the federal courts system for a number of Magistrate Judges. In a brief hiatus from the practice of law, Carra worked at Canisius College for three years as Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs, functioning as the college's Chief Disciplinary Officer. In 2008 she joined Independent Health and is currently a Senior Deputy Counsel. She received her associate’s degree from Hilbert College in 1981 and then her bachelor’s from SUNY Fredonia. Carra then went on to earn her Juris Doctorate from Union University’s Albany Law School.                  

Phil Perna photoPhilip Perna (Buffalo, NY) is the President and CEO of Supermarket Management, Inc., a family enterprise which operates five Tops Markets as a franchisee of Tops. He joined the company after spending 16 years in the private practice of Law. He currently serves as a member of the board of directors of The Volunteer Lawyers Project and is a graduate and former board member of Leadership Buffalo. He has also served on the boards of D'Youville College, the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, NCCJ and The Sisters Hospital Foundation. He is a graduate of Boston College and The Syracuse University College of Law.

Steven Vanuga photoSteven Vanuga (Springville, NY) is the Regional Vice President of Adjusters International/BLC.  Throughout Vanuga’s extensive career in the insurance industry he has held titles as General Manager, Principal Insurance Broker, Senior Sales Producer and Business Development Manager. In these capacities he led all aspects of new business development, sales and account management for providers in property and casualty insurance for commercial and personal lines. Vanuga has been a member of the Boys and Girls Club of Springville, Chair of Pop Warner Rails to Trails, and Vice President of the Springville Chamber of Commerce. He earned bachelor’s degrees in both history and secondary education from SUNY Geneseo.

Lamont Williams photoLamont Williams (Buffalo, NY) is the Executive Director of the Buffalo Region Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection, which works to help students overcome barriers that cause them to abandon their education and drop out.  Williams, a United States Navy Veteran, has 27 years of successful entrepreneurship experience and he is a Licensed NYS Private Investigator.  He is a 2012 graduate of Leadership Buffalo. Williams is a founding member and Treasurer of the Buffalo Association of Black Journalists, also an active member of the Road Less Traveled Theatre, Leadership Buffalo, Meals on Wheels of WNY, the Olmstead Center for Sight, Open Buffalo and an advisory board member for WNED-TV. He earned bachelor degrees in psychology, communications, and African American Studies from the University at Buffalo.


Hilbert College, located in suburban Hamburg, N.Y., south of Buffalo, is a private four-year college founded in 1957 in the Catholic Franciscan tradition. With nearly 1,100 students, Hilbert is a dynamic Western New York college that offers career-focused majors, including one of the top criminal justice programs in the region, and more than 50 minors and concentrations. The college’s engaging, student-centered campus community offers numerous leadership, internship, and service learning opportunities from which students launch successful careers while making positive changes in their communities. The Hilbert Blueprint promotes a well-rounded student experience over four years – starting with the Foundations Seminar in the freshman year, followed by Sophomore Service, Junior Symposium, and culminating with the Senior Capstone. Hilbert has expanded its academic offerings with the college’s first graduate programs and adult and evening programs geared toward working adults.
