HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College Director of Athletics Tim Seil and Head Football Coach Jim Kubiak round out the Hawks’ football coaching staff with five additional assistant coaches who join the six assistants previously announced on January 24.
Kyree Carter (Defensive Line), Sam Smith (Running Backs/Recruiting Assistant), William (Bill) Stachowski (Assistant Wide Receivers), Luke Tasker (Wide Receivers), and Sam Watts (Kicking) will help guide the football program into its first season of Division III competition when they host Denison University at St. Francis High School Polian Family Field on September 10, 2022.
Kyree Carter will serve as a defensive line coach at Hilbert. He was recently a defensive line coach at Cardinal O’Hara High School and at Canisius High School. While at Canisius, Carter helped the Crusaders earn two Monsignor Martin Championships and the 2019 New York State Catholic Championship.
Sam Smith joins the staff as the running backs coach. He has nine years of coaching experience throughout the WNY area, including time as an offensive coordinator for the semi-pro South Buffalo Celtics and Maryvale High School.
Bill Stachowski will serve as an assistant wide receivers coach alongside Tasker. Previously, when not serving the Western New York community as a New York State Senator, Stachowski was very active supporting the Hunter’s Hope Foundation and local high school football programs as an assistant coach.
Luke Tasker transitions back to the sidelines and will serve as the wide receivers coach for the Hawks. Tasker will pull from his experience as a collegiate and professional player. After spending a training camp with the San Diego Chargers, he signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of Canadian Football League. Tasker played seven seasons north of the border, including an All-Star year in 2018 when he recorded over 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns. Most recently, he served as a color analyst for the Tiger-Cats on the Ticats-Audio Network.
Sam Watts continues his passion of teaching and will serve as the kicking coach. Watts spent 16 years as a college assistant and analyst, and he played a role in leading two different high school teams to five state championships since he became a special teams coach in 1987.
