Hilbert Students Receive Lessons in Leadership
Jul 16, 2002
HAMBURG, N.Y. – A recent week-long program on leadership topics like problem solving, creative thinking and communication has given some Hilbert College students a chance to build their skills for future leadership roles.
The residential program held earlier this month at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ont., was attended by Rotary Youth Leadership Award recipients. Established in 1973, the scholarship program is designed to encourage, assist and train youth leaders and potential leaders in responsible youth leadership.
Hilbert RYLA recipients were Michael Fox of Derby, Nila Griffis of Fort Erie, and Nicholas Pasquarella of Blasdell. They were selected based on leadership activities, work experience, and academic criteria.
As part of the program, leadership characteristics were developed with special activities, including simulation games, committee work, and public speaking. Students also learned about group dynamics, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, motivation, career planning, and ethics.
Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Hamburg/Sunrise, the Hilbert students received certificates of completion in recognition of service to the community.
